Asilimia kubwa ya watu wana tatizo la kusaga meno ambalo kitaalamu linafahamika kama "bruxism". Tatizo hili la kusaga meno huenda sambamba na kukaza kwa taya (jaw clenching)

Kuna aina mbili la tatizo hili la kusaga meno au bruxism, sleep/noctunal bruxism ambalo hutokea wakati mtu akiwa amelala na diurnal/awake bruxism ambalo hutokea wakati mtu akiwa macho. Aina zote mbili zina vitu vinavyofanana ambavyo ni kusaga meno na kukaza kwa taya.

Ni ngumu kugundua kama una tatizo la kusaga kwa sababu mara nyingi hutokea bila kufahamu lakini kama una hizi dalili basi una tatizo la kusaga meno
  •  Maumivu ya taya na kupungua kwa kufunguka kwa mdomo
  • Meno yaliyosagika na kuvunjika
  • Maumivu ya kichwa
  • Maumivu ya masikio
Ingiwa mtu yoyote anaweza akapata tatizo hili ila huwapata sana watu wenye umri kuanzia miaka 20-40

Kwanini watu wanasaga meno?

Kuna sababu nyingi zinazopelekea watu kusaga meno, lakini inaaminika kuwa sababu kubwa ni msongo wa mawazo na wasiwasi. Na hii ndio sababu hasa tatizo hili huwapata sana vijana. Tatizo la kukosa pumzi na matumizi ya madawa ya kulevya pia ni sababu kubwa ya tatizo la kusaga meno.

Unawezaje kuzuia kusaga meno?

Hakuna tiba maalumu ya kuzuia kusaga meno, ila kuna njia kadhaa za kupunguza kusaga meno na athari zake.
  • Kuvaa mouthguards ambazo husaidia kupunguza kusagika kwa meno
  • Kupata tiba ya kisaikolojia kupunguza msongo wa mawazo na wasiwasi
  • Kumuona Daktari wa meno kama una dalili mojawapo ya zilizotajwa hapo juu

PLASTIC FREE SMILES PROJECT 2023-2024

  Plastic Free Smiles project is an environmental and oral health project designed by Dr. Winfred Mgaya under the umbrella of Tanzania Oral Health Foundation. The project aims to raise awareness on the effects of plastic pollution to the environment specifically caused by plastic toothbrushes and advocating on the adoption of eco-friendly toothbrushes to reduce the plastic pollution caused by plastic toothbrushes. The project is structured to have two phases that will start from November 2023 to April 2024 and May 2024 to November 2024.
