TATIZO LA KUKOSA PUMZI  NA KUKOROMA WAKATI WA KULALA

Kukosa pumzi wakati wa kulala (sleep apnea) ni tatizo ambalo hutokea wakati upumuaji wa kawaida huingiliwa wakati mtu akiwa usingizini. Kukoroma ni tatizo linalowapata watu wengi wanaopata shida ya ya kupumua wakati wakiwa usingizini ila sio wote wanaokoroma wanapata shida ya kupumua.

Kuna aina mbili za kukosa pumzi wakati wa usingizi;
  1. Obstructive sleep apnea. Hii ndio ya kawaida na inawapata watu wengi. Hutokea pale njia ya hewa inapokua imezibwa wakati wa usingizi. Matatizo ya kiafya kama uzito uliopitiliza huchangia sana kwenye hili.
  2. Central sleep apnea. Hii hutokea pale ambapo ubongo unashindwa  kupeleka taarifa na kuamsha misuli ya upumuaji. Njia za hewa zinakua wazi ila ubongo hushindwa kuamsha misuli. Hii huwapata sana watu waliopooza, wenye saratani ya ubongo na moyo kushindwa kufanya kazi(heart failure).
Tatizo la kukosa pumzi usingizini linaweza kumpata mtu yoyote katika umri wowote. Ingawa wanaume wapo kwenye hatari zaidi ya kupata tatizo hili ila hatari zaidi ipo kwa wale;
  • Umri zaidi ya miaka 40
  • Uzito mkubwa/uliopitiliza
  • Historia ya ugonjwa kwenye familia
  • Kuziba kwa pua kutokana na mzio (allergies)
  • Kuwa na ulimi mkubwa na taya ndogo
Tatizo la kukosa pumzi wakati wa kulala linaweza kutibiwa. Baadhi ya matibabu ni kama;
  • Kubadilisha jinsi ya kulala. kuacha kulala kwa mgongo.
  • Vifaa vya kinywa. Vifaa mbalimbali vya mdomo vinaweza kusaidia katika kupunguza tatizo hili la kukosa pumzi. madaktari wa kinywa na meno wanaweza kusaidia katika matibabu yake

PLASTIC FREE SMILES PROJECT 2023-2024

  Plastic Free Smiles project is an environmental and oral health project designed by Dr. Winfred Mgaya under the umbrella of Tanzania Oral Health Foundation. The project aims to raise awareness on the effects of plastic pollution to the environment specifically caused by plastic toothbrushes and advocating on the adoption of eco-friendly toothbrushes to reduce the plastic pollution caused by plastic toothbrushes. The project is structured to have two phases that will start from November 2023 to April 2024 and May 2024 to November 2024. The project includes physical meetings with target groups as well as online and social media campaigns OBJECTIVES The objective of the advocacy campaign is to raise awareness of the environmental impact of plastic toothbrushes while encouraging people to make the switch to eco-friendly toothbrushes.
